What you do in the Assembly

The Leader of the Legislative House presides over sittings, keeps order and puts motions to a recorded vote. The House makes the bye-laws the council runs on, questions how departments spend, and must approve the council's budget before it takes effect. The Leader speaks for the Assembly in the council's business.

• Presiding over plenary sittingsChairs sittings of the House, keeps order, rules on procedure and records the votes taken, so decisions are on the record.
• Making and reviewing bye-lawsSteers bye-laws through reading, committee review and debate, so rules on sanitation and waste are clear and enforceable; the Sanitation and Waste Bye-Laws passed in 2025.
• Oversight of departments and projectsLeads quarterly scrutiny of council departments, agencies and projects — 12 MDAs under review, 24 oversight reports tabled and 60 projects verified so far.
• Scrutiny of the council budgetGuides the House through the council's budget estimates, questions the figures with the Executive and approves only what the House can defend before residents.

• 6th Legislative Assembly inauguratedThe 6th Legislative Assembly was inaugurated, and Hon. Opeyemi Apatira was elected Leader of the Legislative House. Sittings and notices will be published here as scheduled.
